This Fly was designed by some American bloke around the 1960's and it is thought that the fly was first designed to represent a Hellgrammite, which is the Larval stage of the Dobsonfly. These aquatic insects are found around the whole world, including New Zealand with its own native species so it is no surprise that this Fly is Very Popular even after 70 years. Although this Fly was designed to represent the Dobsonfly we now know it can represent a number of things in the water column.
